My mom and I just got back from Atlanta where we visited the big wholesale market where retailers go to order merchandise for their stores. We visit twice a year and I always sneak pictures(even though it’s not technically allowed) so that you guys can see what it’s like and get excited about what’s going to be in the store soon!
Our trip started out a little rocky as I woke up to 40mph wind gusts and started panicking about the flight. I hate flying and any little bit of turbulence scares me so I called my mom and said that we should drive instead. At first she thought I was joking because it’s an 8 hour drive. Then she saw the weather and reluctantly agreed to make a last minute change and hop in the car.
We drove all day and it was dark when we got there. My mom took this photo while I was driving into Atlanta.
Our second surprise happened when we got to the hotel where we had made reservations 6 months earlier and were told, “We don’t have a room for you. We’re very busy this week so we don’t have a room”
I figured he was misunderstanding us so I explained that we had reservations. Still no room.
They offered to send us to another hotel for the night and pay for it but my mom was still really upset. She asked for a nice dinner too so they sent us up to the rooftop restaurant that rotates to give you views of the whole city. We ordered steak and it made the situation a little better!
After finally getting to the other hotel, we rested up and woke the next day ready to shop!
I always think that I’m going to absolutely hate ordering Christmas in January but once we get there and see good stuff that I know you guys will be excited about, I really get into it. This year, I got excited again! Here’s some of what we saw:
Lots of plaid and buffalo check mixed with birch
My mom told me to take a picture of this arrangement to give us some inspiration. Market is really good for getting ideas! We had a little buffalo check in our 2016 Christmas but we’ll have a lot more this year!
Here are some of the things we ordered to get this look!
We couldn’t believe it when we found these plates. They’re perfect for our plaid theme and so many of you were asking for chargers last Christmas.
Pink and Pastel Christmas!
We saw way more pink for Christmas this year and while it won’t be the main theme in our store, we will have a pink/pastel area for 2017 Christmas. I can’t wait!
See the three houses on this mantel? They might be my favorite thing we ordered for Christmas. They’re so magical and I know that when I was little, I would have stared at them for hours. I wanted everything in this showroom but it was so expensive!
Snowy, White Woodland Christmas
Picture whitewashed branches, galvanized buckets, and woodland animals . We saw a lot of white on white at Market and Christmas was no exception. In this area, we will mix textures but there will be a lot of white.
The showroom pictured below is a really fun one because they display with vintage pieces. We can get a good idea of how it will look in our store with painted furniture.
I loved these wooden trees! Might have to take one home!
My heart just about stopped when I saw this window display. Some of the wholesalers do such a good job of creating inspiring showroom displays. Made us want to do something amazing in our windows this year.
We ordered A LOT of Christmas goodies this year and I think it’s going to be the best selection we’ve ever had. We thought really hard about what you’d need to do a mantel, decorate your table, decorate your tree, and dress up your front door. I only took pictures of a fraction of what we ordered so there’s a lot more that you’ll see in the store for Christmas 2017!
Now let’s talk about what’s coming NOW!
Some of it has already come and we just got home 2 days ago! One of the themes we saw was a lot of green/botanical looks with big tropical leaves.
We ordered the leaf placemats. They could be used for so many different occasions on your table or you can use them for craft projects. Pair them with any florals or greenery because they’re so neutral. We mostly saw it paired with black and white.
I think the key to making this look modern is to pair it with the black and white tile, natural raw wood elements, and lots of texture. We ordered textured pottery like this too and the big single green leaf to pop into any jar or pot.
We actually thought a lot about greenery on this buying trip. People often come in and say they don’t know how to do arrangements or they don’t like stuffy old fake flowers everywhere but need something green to get that natural feeling in their homes. Our solution was to order easy stuff that anyone can do.
One of our choices were these faux cacti. You take your pot, pop one in, and you’re done. They’re so cute!
I cannot stress enough how much my mom loves these white flower stems. She kept hugging them and trying to add more to our order. They’re so soft and pretty and I think 3 or 5 of them in a container would be amazing.
These branches are really cool for big glass jars. I’ll be taking a few of these home!
Thanks to Fixer Upper, the modern Farmhouse style was still going strong at Market and we are loving it.
It’s easy and casual and feels family orientated so it’s perfect for our store and what we believe about decorating! Here’s some of what we found.
Ordered the farmhouse sign and lots of other goodies in this showroom!
The candle below was so cute. It’s in a little mini olive bucket. We ordered about 6 different scents including Sweet Tea and they’ll be here very soon unless they’re backordered. Woo! The cow print should ship soon too.
We ordered this chandelier so we’d have some farmhouse lighting options.
A few more things we picked to complete the modern farmhouse area of the store.
Texture, pattern, and inky blue/black
A major theme for 2017 decor was lots and lots of texture. We plan to mix these accessories with our painted vintage furniture so we can get a modern meets vintage look. While we love old and antique pieces, we believe that you can keep updating them using new accessories as long as you keep a good balance.
My mom and I both jumped up and down over these floor mats. Some of them look like old tiled flooring. We picked the one on the right to go on the floor in our front window. These are great because you can just wipe them off and they’re super durable for those of you who have messy kids and pups!
Velvet and Tufting
While we’ve always been suckers for both velvet and tufted pieces, they’ve never been more in style than right now. Velvet was everywhere at Market. Here I am in a velvet chair we ordered. I’m in love with that color because it’s almost faded like vintage fabric. We got a pair of them!
I thought this was such a pretty display! Can you believe that nothing in this picture is actually vintage? This company is just really good at making vintage inspired goods.
Below are 2 of the fancier pillows we ordered to go in our more French area. I’m OBSESSED with the rose gold one.
Totally worth it though! We both ended the trip saying that we think we ordered the best stuff we’ve ever found. I can’t wait to put it all together in the store and help you guys create pretty, cozy spaces for your families!
